University Hospitals Case Medical Center finds new treatment holds promise for Tourette syndrome
11-12-2007 · EurekAlert!New research from University Hospitals Case Medical Center finds deep brain stimulation helps patients who suffer from Tourette Syndrome. This first-of-its-kind study of five adults with TS determined that DBS can reduce tic frequency and severity in some people who have exhausted other medical treatments.Three-month data from the prospective year-long double-blind study are published in the Journal of Neurosurgery. The majority of patients experienced a significant reduction in symptoms and an improved quality of life.

Using a new second-generation of Tarceva-like medications, researchers can overcome the drug resistance, and such drugs are now in development including in clinical trials at the Ireland Cancer Center.
