Cethromycin achieves all endpoints in second pivotal Phase III Trial for treatment for pneumonia

Advanced Life Sciences Holdings, Inc. today announced positive results from Trial CL-05, the second of two pivotal phase III clinical trials designed to assess the safety and effectiveness of cethromycin, a novel once-a-day oral antibiotic for the treatment of mild-to-moderate community acquired pneumonia, the sixth leading cause of death in the United States.

Final trial analysis showed a 27 percent reduction in the relative risk of cancer recurrence following surgery, compared to placebo. GSK also announced today the launch of a Phase III efficacy and safety trial for this novel cancer immunotherapy; the largest clinical trial ever conducted in lung cancer treatment.

    Based on an interim blinded analysis of the first group of the more than 80 patients who have now completed the trial at 16 weeks, the study has shown improvement in polyposis by endoscopy in about 50 percent of patients (N=43) and improvement in sinus inflammation by CT scan in approximately 50 percent of patients (N=23). Moreover, 50 percent of patients with objective evidence of improvement have achieved the primary endpoint of complete resolution of cardinal symptoms.
