New technique could dramatically lower costs of DNA sequencing
12-12-2007 · EurekAlert!Using computer simulations, researchers at the University of Illinois have demonstrated a strategy for sequencing DNA by driving the molecule back and forth through a nanopore capacitor in a semiconductor chip. The technique could lead to a device that would read human genomes quickly and affordably.

07-16-2007 · EurekAlert!
Exploiting interactions between food and drugs could dramatically lower the costs of some anti-cancer drugs -- and many other medications. Certain foods aid absorption or delay breakdown of these drugs. Two cancer-pharmacology specialists suggest the "Value Meal," a novel way to decrease costs and increase benefits from these effective but expensive drugs.

- Jefferson scientist's patent dramatically improves
07-18-2007 · EurekAlert!
A basic scientist at Jefferson Medical College and the Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson, has shared a patent on what may someday be a ubiquitous tool in DNA analysis. He and a colleague at Johns Hopkins University, have developed a technique that makes a DNA separation technique called electrophoresis, five times faster and less expensive than is is possible. The discovery could have a range of applications, from forensics, to cloning, and also to bioterrorism.

- MedImmune presents new pharmaco-economic data at AAP regarding infants at high risk for RSV
10-29-2007 · EurekAlert!
MedImmune today announced results from a recent economic analysis of Synagis (palivizumab), a monoclonal antibody that is the standard of care for prevention of severe lower respiratory tract infection due to respiratory syncytial virus in high-risk infants. Released at the American Academy of Pediatrics 2007 National Conference and Exhibition, the analysis evaluated the costs of providing Synagis to premature infants, as well as the potential health benefits and cost savings that could occur from lower rates of severe RSV infections.
