Moss is a super model for feeding the hungry
12-13-2007 · EurekAlert!Scientists from the University of Leeds, with colleagues from Germany, Japan and the USA, have sequenced the genome for Physcomitrella -- the first nonflowering or "lower" plant to be sequenced -- and their findings are published in the latest issue of the journal Science. - Sharks' 'bite force' researched by University of Tampa biologist
08-23-2007 · EurekAlert!
Dan Huber, University of Tampa assistant professor of biology, is analyzing the "bite force" and feeding mechanics of great white sharks. Earlier this summer Huber traveled to Australia to dissect a rare 8-foot great white shark, and help create the first high-res 3-D computer model of its bite. Huber's research may lead to advances in protective swimwear, shark-proofing equipment and a better understanding of flexible cartilage -- which forms the sharks' whole skeletons.

Although current surgical techniques and multi-modality treatment regimens allow organ preservation for a growing number of patients with head and neck cancers, remaining dependent on a feeding tube after treatment is a major problem for these patients. An analysis by Fox Chase Cancer Center researchers sought to identify which treatment-related factors are more likely to avoid feeding-tube dependency.

- Turtles are loyal in feeding as well as in breeding
04-24-2007 · EurekAlert!
A research team led by the University of Exeter has discovered that, after laying their eggs, sea turtles travel hundreds of miles to feed at exactly the same sites. The research shows for the first time that marine turtles appear to be as loyal to specific foraging sites and migratory routes as they are to nesting sites. The findings strengthen the argument for the protection of key foraging sites of these endangered species.
