ISIS Second Target Station -- protons on target!
12-18-2007 · EurekAlert! The ISIS Second Target Station Project at the STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire achieved a major milestone on Friday, Dec. 14, at the first attempt and two days ahead of schedule. Protons were successfully extracted into the new proton transfer beamline from the existing ISIS accelerator and delivered to the new target station.

01-30-2008 · EurekAlert!
Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine have now provided a new strategy for designing drugs that target resistant viral strains of inflenza tupe A by solving the three-dimensional structure of a viral protein called the M2 proton channel. This protein is the molecular receptor for these drugs.

- Stanford researchers get precise picture of cell target for drugs
10-25-2007 · EurekAlert!
More than half of all drugs given to patients work by targeting a particular type of "docking station," or receptor, found on body cells, to steer the cell's machinery toward healing an illness. Researchers from Stanford University School of Medicine and the Scripps Research Institute have determined what one of those receptors looks like at the molecular level, giving them the keys to greater control of the process.

- Where is the proton? Yale scientists discover footprints of shared protons
04-12-2007 · EurekAlert!
This week in Science, Yale researchers present "roadmaps" showing that shared protons, a common loose link between two biological molecules, simply vibrate between the molecules as a local oscillator, rather than intimately entangling with the molecular vibrations of the attached molecules.

Dutch researcher Paul van der Nat investigated more than three million collisions between electrons and protons. In his PhD thesis he demonstrates -- for the first time -- that the spin contribution of quarks to the proton can be studied by examining collisions in which two particles (hadrons) are produced.

01-09-2008 · EurekAlert!
Muscles usually contract when a neurotransmitter molecule is released from nerve cells onto muscle cells. But University of Utah scientists discovered that bare subatomic protons can act like larger, more complex neurotransmitters, making gut muscles contract in tiny round worms so the worms can poop.
