Hubble finds double Einstein ring, and other results
01-11-2008 · European Space Agency (ESA)The NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope has revealed a never-before-seen optical alignment in space: a pair of glowing rings, one nestled inside the other like a bull's-eye pattern. The double-ring pattern is caused by the complex bending of light from two distant galaxies strung directly behind a foreground massive galaxy, like three beads on a string.

- Data showed improved quality of life and patient satisfaction with SYMBICORT
05-22-2007 · EurekAlert!
New data demonstrated that the combination asthma therapy, SYMBICORT(budesonide/formoterol fumarate dihydrate), led to significant improvements in health-related quality of life and greater patient-reported satisfaction with asthma treatment, versus its monocomponents (budesonide or formoterol) or placebo. The results from these two 12-week randomized, double-blind trials were presented at the American Thoracic Society 2007 International Conference held in San Francisco, May 18-23.

- MU physicist defends Einstein's theory and 'speed of gravity' measurement
10-03-2007 · EurekAlert!
Scientists have attempted to disprove Albert Einstein's theory of general relativity for the better part of a century. After testing and confirming Einstein's prediction in 2002 that gravity moves at the speed of light, a professor at the University of Missouri-Columbia has spent the past five years defending the result, as well as his own innovative techniques for measuring the speed of propagation of the tiny ripples of space-time known as gravitational waves.

A new study presented today showed that ramelteon did not impair middle-of-the-night balance, mobility or memory performance in older adults with insomnia, relative to placebo. This study also demonstrated, as in previous studies, that patients treated with zolpidem did have impaired performances on these measures, as compared to placebo. The results of this double-blind, placebo-controlled trial were presented in a poster at the American Psychiatric Association 2007 Annual Meeting.

- First 3D map of the Universe's dark matter scaffolding
01-07-2007 · European Space Agency (ESA)
By analysing the COSMOS survey – the largest ever survey undertaken with Hubble – an international team of scientists has assembled a three-dimensional map that offers a first look at the web-like large-scale distribution of dark matter in the Universe. This historic achievement, one of the most important results in cosmology, accurately confirms standard theories of structure formation.

- Users mistakenly trust higher positioned results in Google searches
08-21-2007 · EurekAlert!
An eye tracking experiment published in the Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication revealed that college student internet users have an inherent trust in Google's ability to rank results by their true relevance to the query. When participants selected a link from Google's result pages, their decisions were strongly biased towards links higher in position, even if that content was less relevant to the search query.
