In a large, randomized, placebo-controlled study of 22,071 healthy male physicians, taking a low-dose of aspirin every other day lowered the risk of receiving an initial asthma diagnosis by 22 percent.

    A team led by Dr. Christian Doutremepuich from the University of Bordeaux 2 has determined that the paradoxical prothrombotic effects of ultra-low-dose aspirin, that could have beneficial properties decreasing bleeding complications of portal hypertension, are mediated by inhibition of Cyclooxygenase 2. This effect differs to the usual inhibition of Cyclooxygenase 1 at higher doses that has an antithrombotic action.
