Young adolescent girls' depression is tied to more stressful life events
02-07-2007 · EurekAlert!In the first study to examine sex differences in depression that followed adolescents over a long period of time, researchers found that girls experience more negative life events and more stressors than boys. The study followed 562 8th and 10th grade students in the Chicago area and looked at depressive symptoms, alcohol use and the occurrence of life stressors. Girls reported more depressive symptoms and peer, family and romantic stressors lives than boys.

The study, appearing in the Feb. 5, 2007, issue of the Archives of Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine, is the first to investigate the possible interaction between LBW and later adversity.
