Taking AIM at post-stroke depression

A new straight-forward care management program is significantly more effective than usual care in improving depression in stroke survivors. "Depression after stroke is associated with higher death rates, diminished recovery, increased risk for subsequent stroke and other cardiovascular incidents, and greater health-care utilization," said Dr. Linda Williams, who led the study.

Prazosin, also prescribed as an antipsychotic medication, appears to block the increase of steroid hormones known as glucocorticoids, Portland researchers have found.
