Standardized diagnostic test for learning disabilities

Researchers from the Center for Brain Research and Learning Disabilities at the University of Haifa have developed a standardized diagnostic test for learning disabilities for administration in the classroom to all students. The test has been adapted to Hebrew and Arabic.

    According to a new study published in the latest issue of the Journal of Sexual Medicine and conducted in the Department of Psychology of McGill University, thermography shows great promise as a diagnostic method of measuring sexual arousal. It is less intrusive than currently utilized methods, and is the only available test that requires no physical contact with participants. Thermography is currently the only method that can be used to diagnose sexual health problems in both women and men.

    Scientists at CNRS and the Pasteur Institute, collaborating with physicians in Gabon, have just undertaken a study on cerebral malaria in children living in an endemic region. This study, which was published in PLoS ONE, should allow us to better understand this severe form of malaria which affects 20 to 40 percent of people infected by the Plasmodium falciparum parasite, and is fatal in 30 to 50 percent of cases.

    Results from a prospective clinical study show that the GeneSearch™ Breast Lymph Node (BLN) Assay, a gene-based diagnostic test has greater sensitivity than traditional intra-operative methods of detecting the spread of breast cancer to the lymph nodes. In the study sponsored by Veridex, LLC, the GeneSearch™ BLN Assay demonstrated overall sensitivity at least 10 percentage points higher than traditional intra-operative tests. The data were presented today at the 29th annual San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium.

    Researchers at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston can identify and quantify specific protein markers in human saliva to provide an early, non-invasive diagnosis of breast cancer, according to a study appearing today in the journal Cancer Investigation. The study is being applied to "lab-on-a-chip" technology that may bring this type of diagnostic test -- capable of detecting the presence of cancer before a tumor forms -- into everyday use.
