Biodiesel won't drive down global warming

04-23-2007 · EurekAlert!

EU legislation to promote the uptake of biodiesel could increase rather than decrease greenhouse gas emissions. A study reported in C&I revealed that while petroleum diesel emits 85 percent of its greenhouse gases at the final stage, in the engine, two-thirds of emissions produced by rapeseed derived biodiesel occur during farming -- cropland emits nitrous oxide, which is 200-300 times as potent a greenhouse gas as CO2.

    11-01-2006 · EurekAlert!
The shift toward a service-based economy won't automatically reduce the amount of greenhouse gases in the air, a University of Minnesota researcher has found. His research contradicts assumptions about global warming often preferred by some economists and national policy experts.

  3. Stabilizing climate requires near-zero carbon emissions
    02-14-2008 · EurekAlert!
Now that scientists have reached a consensus that carbon dioxide emissions from human activities are the major cause of global warming, the next question is: How can we stop it? Can we just cut back on carbon, or do we need to go cold turkey? According to a new study by scientists at the Carnegie Institution, halfway measures won't do the job. To stabilize our planet's climate, we need to find ways to kick the carbon habit altogether.
