ACP supports new bill to promote adoption of health information technology

Kirk, M.D., F.A.C.P., said today. "Increased use of health information technology could greatly benefit health care in the US through improved patient care, reduction in medical errors, higher efficiency and potential long run cost savings."

In addition to the reporting of provider quality and prices, 86 percent of respondents support public reporting of drug prices charged to major purchasers, and 82 percent support the public reporting of medical loss ratios.

Looking at 49 million lab results, Regenstrief Institute researchers found that of the approximately 4,000 lab tests administered throughout the metropolitan Indianapolis area, approximately 20 percent accounted for 99 percent of the results and covered all the tests performed for 99 percent of patients. Nearly 80 percent of the tests were seldom administered.
