Cat hair at home poses an allergy risk, particularly for young children
05-02-2007 · EurekAlert!Cats and cat allergens in the home clearly raise the risk of the allergic sensitisation of children up to the age of two. For older children, however, the influence of the environment at home on the development of cat allergen sensitization decreases. This is the conclusion reached by scientists from the GSF-National Research Center for Environment and Health, Helmholtz-Association, when they evaluated the data of more than 2,000 children from Leipzig and Munich.

This study examined how the development of self-regulation is associated with emerging math and literacy ability in kindergarten. One particular aspect of self-regulation was particularly associated with early ability in math. Some children may be at risk of early school failure due to slower development of self-regulation abilities.

A survey of 32 urban homes found that many lacked functioning fire alarms, staircase gates and safe storage for medications, researchers report in the August issue of Pediatrics. Fires, falls and poisonings are the top causes of childhood home injuries in Baltimore.
